FIBREGLASS KOI POND LINERS OFFER MANY ADVANTAGES!
So you want to install a Koi pond and aren't sure which of the several types of Koi pond liners is best for your situation? There are advantages and disadvantages to each type and only you can decide which is right for your pond. I like fibreglass Koi pond liners because they are both versatile and strong. You can join them together to make a variety of shapes, sizes and designs. You should, however, keep in mind that it's best to design for easy maintenance to insure having the best possible water quality for your Koi. Fibreglass pond shells are quite easy to install. Simply excavate, level the shell on 2″-3″ of sand base, install any plumbing you are going to need and then backfill the area around the pond. If you go the route of purchasing a pond kit everything you need for your pond will be included and you will have step by step installation instructions. You can also have your fibreglass pond professionally installed. Either way it is wise to do some research first so you know what's going on and know which optional pieces of equipment you might want to include to make pond maintenance a bit easier. Whatever you do DO NOT neglect to install a bottom drain. It is one of the most important pieces of equipment for keeping your pond clean! Fibreglass pond liners have several advantages over ponds with plastic or rubber flexible liners, and even cement Koi ponds, which are often considered to be the most long-lasting. Are YOU looking for everything Koi? Click here for specialist information Unlike flexible liners, fibreglass is not subject to rim erosion and punctures, making it structurally much sounder. Due to this it is a more permanent and durable solution. Fibreglass also resists root damage and sabotage from burrowing animals. Either of these will sometimes cause extensive damage to other pond lining materials. One of the reasons I favour fibreglass over cement is because fibreglass lined ponds are not prone to cracking due to minor ground movements and settling like cement ponds are. They can also be safer for your Koi since they are chemically inert and don't cause changes to water chemistry and pH like cement can, at least initially. Fibreglass is much easier to repair than either flexible liners or cement, saving time, work and money! So, even though cement is the choice of many, and flexible liners are the least expensive, I personally prefer fibreglass Koi pond liners.
