KOI POND FILTRATION
Any man made body of water is going to need some sort of filtration, and this is just as true with a Koi pond. Keeping the water clean is essential, especially from biological agents and debris. The problem with pieces of biological debris is that they tend to use oxygen in the water, which is oxygen that the Koi need if they are to remain healthy and happy. There are a few different types of filters that you can utilize if you so desire, and they are all quite different. So we'll start from the top and go over the main types of filters that can be utilized in a Koi pond. When we are done, you will hopefully be able to make your choice and be on your way to having a nice clean Koi pond. First of all is the pre-filter. This is a great device that is designed to stop solids from even entering the filter. Solids entering the actual filter is nothing but trouble because it tends to clog up. As a result of the pre-filter, you will not need to constantly clean out the actual filter and it will be able to perform it's function continuously. It's not perfect, and in fact will only remove about 93% of the solid waste, but this is still enough. Then you have the bio filter. This is exactly what it sounds like, using living material to biologically eliminate contaminants. This is a great way to get rid of chemicals or even silt. Those who are interested in preserving the environment should opt for this one, because it doesn't cause any sort of pollution. Bead filters are a great choice, these are usually composed of small beads that help filter out waste. It is well known however that many beads are lost throughout the process due to the fact that the beads are smaller than the strainer holes. This leads many people to use sand instead, as it is heavier than water. It also rests at the bottom of the tank rather than flowing out through the strainer holes. Yes, you can opt for larger beads, but they aren't quite as efficient. Looking for pumps and filters for YOUR Koi pond? Click here for specialist information Finally we have the Bakki Showers. These are very nice, and typically utilizes electrostatic energy, causing the organic matter to gain adhesive properties. As a result of this, smaller amounts of bacteria will make it through into the pond. There are multiple models of this type of filter. Some of these range from single tiered filters, all the way to large industrial multi-tiered filters designed for large Koi ponds. One thing that is important to note, is the fact that the Koi are in a controlled environment; YOUR environment. Generally if anything happens to the Koi, you will be to blame, and keeping their water perfectly clean is a huge part of the entire process. If you are unsure of how to keep your Koi pond clean, make sure you consult with experts before you get too far. With the right information, some work and perseverance, you can have the perfect koi pond!
