A KOI POND FOR YOUR BACKYARD SPACE

Looking for a dramatic way to increase the visual appeal of your backyard? A Koi Pond may be the perfect answer for you. Their appeal has grown as the desire for a serene and relaxing sanctuary has increased. These ponds are not to be taken lightly. They are an investment and take a lot of maintenance to keep functioning well.

Many consider the fish to be the most important part of the pond, but this is a misconception. If the pond is not built well and maintained with the proper equipment, your fish could struggle to survive and not reach their full grown potential. It is important to design your Koi Pond well so there will be less refinishing costs later.

The size of the pond can be negotiable, but be sure you don't build too small. Koi fish take up a lot of space and you don't want to have to expand your pond just to fit more fish. A 2,000 gallon pond will only hold about 20 full size Koi fish, so take the number of fish you want into consideration when you are determining the size.

The location of your pond is important. Koi fish need to be in full shade all the time. It is possible to add some plants for your pond to add more shade, but don't count on that being the only shade available. Also, try to avoid putting your pond under large trees that can drop their leaves into the pond.

Some equipment is necessary for your pond to be successful, these include: a pond liner, an aeration system, filter, and of course, the fish. A pond fountain can be an attractive way to help move the water in your pond and keep the organics from building up. Many of these items can be found online or at a local landscaping company.

Koi Ponds can be a beautiful addition to your yard, but the cost and maintenance can be a daunting task for those not fully committed. Make sure you have done your research and are prepared financially to take on this project.
