CHOOSING PLANTS FOR YOUR KOI POND
After you’re done building your pond and everything is in place, it’s time for the fun part: picking the plants that will turn your pond into a beautiful oasis. Plants for pond comes in many colours and sizes. There are probably more than 30 variety of plants to choose from. Not only does plants make the pond more lively and beautiful, it provide another important value to the pond, biological life. Biological life helps maintain your pool by doing what they would do in nature. Before buying the plants, consider your climate and the location of your pond. Some plants can only survive in certain conditions, while others can thrive in any conditions. For this reason, it is wise to consult with your local dealer or research online first. One of the most popular type of plant used in Koi pond are Lotus plants. These plants are plentiful in the tropical region, and since Koi are tropical fish, adding Lotus plants to the pond will make them feel at home. The Lotus plants provide beautiful blooms and a smell that is unmatched. The plants will require the water temperature to be 65 degree Fahrenheit or above. If you live in an area where the temperature is lower, you will need a place to house the lotus plants during the colder months. Lotus plants require soil and plenty of sunlight to survive. Plant them in small container filled with soil in the depth of 2 to 3 feet under the water. If they are planted during the summer months, the lotus plants will start to grow within 2 to 3 weeks and the flowers will bloom once it reach the top of the water. Water hyacinths have become very popular recently because of their simplicity. They do not need any type of soil or planting start growing. The plants is basically thrown into the pond and a little help to anchor them to one place, that’s all the work that is needed. Beside making the pond look beautiful, Water Hyacinths are very functional as well. They help prevent algae and blanket weeds from forming. These plants cant be found at the local pet store or Koi dealer. Beside the two plants mentioned above, there are many other types of plants available.
