PET ARTHRITIS - OUR PETS SUFFER FROM IT TOO

This type of arthritis is quite common nowadays, especially when the owner neglects the diet of the pet, or when there is injury to the pet's joints. That dog you saw limping just might be overweight. Like most cute and cuddly dogs, that dog might really love to eat. Let us just say that the owner of the dog just loves his pooch so much that he could not bear the sight of his dog not munching on something once in a while. This largely contributes to his overweight size, as well as his condition.

Just like those affecting us, there are many kinds of arthritis affecting our pets today. A particular type arthritis in our pets is acute traumatic arthritis. This type of arthritis usually results when injury is present in one of its joints - manifesting quickly into lameness and swelling of the limb. Sadly, pets suffering from this type of arthritis must undergo immediate surgery to prevent osteoarthritis.

Another arthritic ailment we share with our loyal partners in life is rheumatoid arthritis, also called auto immune arthritis. This happens when the pet's immune system begins attacking its joints, causing the synovial membrane to inflame. This, of course, severely impairs the pet's mobility.

Another common arthritis in pets is osteoarthritis. This is mainly due to the destruction of the cartilage over a long period of time. As the cartilage ceases to function, the bones begin to lose its ability to lubricate the bones. Thus, they will rub against each other in a grinding motion, causing pain and becoming inflamed as well.

Hip dysplasia also is a common type. This type of arthritis is caused by infection or severe injury. This disease affects the hips; but if left unattended, it can affect other joints as well. Wear and tear is also sighted as the cause of this particular arthritis.

Bringing your pet to the doctor for an annual checkup would be the best option. The first sign of impaired movement or pain is usually associated with arthritis. Pet arthritis can be cured, if not avoided. All it takes is vigilance and perseverance.
