5 Tips To Successfully Training A Pet Rat

1 - Buy or build a large caged enclosure complete with shelves, ramps, ladders, cubby holes, bins, hammocks, exercise wheels, tunnels, hidey holes, baskets and ropes strung across. Don’t make the mistake of thinking your rats cage doesn’t need to be interesting or stimulating.

2 - Call your rat as it comes to you. It will begin to recognise its name.

3 - To get the rat used to you initially hold it when you can and gently pat and cuddle it while holding it in a variety of positions.

4 - Try to use ‘clicker’ training instead of food/treat training.

5 - Litter train them JUST as you would a cat.
